Medication Policy

pills MEDICATION IN SCHOOL


IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION GUIDELINES AND REGULATIONS, AND THE SOUTH BRUNSWICK TOWNSHIP PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION, ANY MEDICATION WHICH IS TO ADMINISTERED DURING SCHOOL HOURS:

  • 1. Must have parent or legal guardian complete and sign Part II of Medication Order Form.
  • 2. Must have a physician, dentist, or advanced practice nurse complete, sign (NO counter signatures will be accepted), AND stamp Part I of the Medication Order Form.
  • 3. Must be accompanied by a new prescription when there is a change in medication or dosage.
  • 4. Must be in it's original pharmacy labeled container (ask your pharmacist for a separate bottle for school); Over-the-counter items also must be in original packaging.

This policy includes ALL medication to be administered in school including over-the-counter items (such as Tylenol, Advil, Benedryl, cough syrups, etc.).

Please remember a registered nurse can NEVER make a diagnosis or prescribe medication (even over-the-counter). Therefore, medication will not be administered without your permission and the doctors directive.
